Mastery Charter Schools applauds Mayor Kenney for having the vision to take full responsibility and accountability for moving public education forward in Philadelphia. We enthusiastically support his commitment to ensure every child has choice and access to quality schools – district or charter – “no matter where they live and no matter what they look like.”

We share the mayor’s hopes that local control will shift the “unhealthy debate between public charter schools and traditional district schools,” and we stand ready to do our part.

In citing his reasoning for local control, the mayor mentioned the success of schools in Boston, New York and Washington, DC. In each of those cities, charter schools partnered with the mayor and significantly boosted student achievement.  We look forward to working with the mayor and new school board to bring that type of partnership to Philadelphia.
