Learn About the STEM Honors program at Mastery Charter Schools

STEM at Mastery

STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – is responsible for some of your favorite things. Let’s start with the cell phone or computer you’re reading this on. We can’t leave out your favorite social media apps. What about chocolate? (Yes, chocolate!) Roller coasters. Special effects in movies. The list is endless, growing every single day.

We are proud to offer a competitive STEM Honors Program at Hardy Williams High. And we have three STEM labs at Mastery High School of Camden.

What is STEM?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Students learn a variety of skills from how to build robots to how to design websites, but it’s about so much more. STEM prepares students to compete and succeed in the real world by teaching them:

  • Critical thinking
  • Problem solving
  • Research
  • Team building and collaboration
  • Creativity
  • Independent thinking
  • Earn college credit
  • Visit STEM job sites like hospitals and labs
  • Network with STEM professionals
  • Attend a free summer program

STEM is the future. STEM jobs are projected to grow faster than jobs in other fields. Examples of STEM jobs:

  • Architect
  • Chemist
  • Computer programmer
  • Forensic scientist
  • Medical scientist
  • Software developer

Admission into the STEM Honors program is based on:

  • Grade point average
  • PSSA math and science scores
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Good attendance
  • Good behavior

"I wasn't sure about STEM because I didn't like science or math, but the program changed my mind. We build things and it's very hands-on. It's one of the classes I'm excited to go to."
