For the past two years, Pickett has taken fifteen outstanding seniors to Puerto Rico to experience the Spanish speaking culture they have studied for the past two years and to complete 25 hours of community service towards their graduation requirements. The trip allows the students the opportunity to hike El Yunque (the national rain forest), explore historical landmarks and museums, engage in outdoor activities such as bioluminescent kayaking or zip lining, work at a nursery for indigenous plants, and of course, practice their Spanish! We are excited to announce that we will be continuing this once in a lifetime trip for its THIRD year! We will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 21st, 2016 and return the 25th. This week is a week of firsts. Many of our students have never left the Philadelphia region or been exposed to a culture outside of their own. It is many students’ first time flying, first time being away from home, first time being someplace where they have to challenge themselves and lean on their skills they have been developing as a Mastery Charter student. Every single student to take this trip has stated that this experience has changed their life beyond what Mastery had provided for them prior, and that they would go back in a heartbeat.
Please help support us this year! With your “apoyo & ayuda”, we will help a third round of students experience this great opportunity. Any donation big or small is truly appreciated!
Will you join us in gifting these students an experience of a lifetime?
