Francis D. Pastorius Elementary

Brief History

Francis D. Pastorius – Mastery Charter School opened in August 2013. The school serves 550 students from kindergarten to eighth grade. It is located in the Germantown area of Philadelphia.

The School Advisory Committee selected Mastery Charter to restart the school in May 2013. This was part of the School District of Philadelphia’s Renaissance Program. Almost everything changed as a part of the initiative:

  • The staffing transformed with a new leadership team.
  • The facility developed with $1,000,000 of renovations.
  • The instruction improved with a 7:50AM – 3:15PM school day.

The classrooms are centered on student achievement. Scores increased as a result of rigorous curriculum, progress monitoring, and high expectations. Academic data is below:

  • Students who took the Reading PSSA increased their scores by 12 percentage points.
  • Students who took the Math PSSA increased their scores by 26 percentage points.

The community is defined by five core statements. They are recited at the beginning of each day. They are as follows:

  • I choose to be here.
  • I am here to learn and achieve.
  • I am responsible for my actions.
  • I contribute to a safe, respectful, cooperative community.
  • I come with a clear mind and healthy body.
  • This is my school. I make it shine!

Francis D. Pastorius – Mastery Charter School believes that all children should pursue their dreams. Students can succeed in higher education and the global economy with strong motivation and hard work.
