Mastery Volunteers Spend Columbus Day Beautifying Pickett

Formally Pickett Middle School located in Germanton, now Mastery Charter School’s Pickett Campus, is receiving a face lift. On Monday, October 13, parents, students, community members, Mastery staff and volunteers from some of Philadelphia’s leading construction firms have dedicated their time, supplies and passion to assist in painting over 3,500 square feet of the newly renovated building.

Since last fall when the School District invited Mastery to manage the school, Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) 7th grade reading and math scores have risen 41 points and 45 points, respectively.  Most notably, violence and related incidents have decreased a dramatic 85%.

Mastery CEO, Scott Gordon says, “We are excited about the commitment we have received from the community and local businesses that is making this project possible.  Mastery prepares students for success in higher education and the global economy, and we are thrilled to be able to accomplish that mission in a facility that will look fantastic.”

“This was a team effort and local firms such as Buttonwood Painting Co, Sherman Williams, Sruct-Tite Restoration, Chadwick Service Co Inc, Shoemaker Construction Northstar Advisors and Po-Well Trauma Cleaning Squad should be recognized for generously donating their time and supplies,” said John Polk, Director of Operations for Mastery.
